Drivers of the Melkus family

Heinz Melkus (*1928 - 2005)
He competed in more than 200 races from 1950 until 1977. In addition to winning the GDR championship 6 times he succeeded in winning the "Pokal für Frieden und Freundschaft“ (Peace and Friendship Cup) (so-called Eastern European Championship) three times.

Ulli Melkus (*1950 - 1990), son of Heinz Melkus
He competed in more than 180 races from 1968 until his fatal motoring accident in 1990. In this period he was crowned GDR champion 5 times and was runner up on another 9 occasions. He won the "Peace and Friendship Cup" 5 times and was awarded the highest sporting decoration in the GDR – in the form of the Master of Sport – in 1984.

Peter Melkus (*1954), son of Heinz Melkus
He has been active in the sport of motor racing since the age of 14, won the GDR championship title once and competes in international championships to this day. His work as team boss in Formula racing sport began in 1991 when the Melkus Tourenwagen (saloon car) Team was formed.

Ronny Melkus (*1974), son of Ulli Melkus
His career began in 1985 in go-cart racing. After winning a lot of regional go-cart titles, he moved up to Formula racing sport in 1991. Since this time he has been ranked as one of the most successful racing drivers in the newly reformed German federal states of the former East Germany. He competed in international championships in Formula III racing, in the DTC and in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

Sepp Melkus (*1983), son of Peter Melkus
After competing in international go-cart championships he drove successfully from the age of 15 in formula racing and sports car races for his father’s team.
